Officers set to help curb vaping

KUALA LUMPUR: School liaison officers (PPS) in the city are ready to help school administrators should they encounter incidents of students vaping in schools, says Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid.

“On matters of discipline such as vaping in school, if the administrators need help, the liaison officers will certainly assist.

“Vaping is not a crime but it is certainly prohibited in schools. If schools encounter such problems and need help, the PPS will assist,” he said when contacted.

So far, Comm Allaudeen said KL police have not encountered any cases involving vapes containing drugs this year.

“We will monitor the situation closely,” he said.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that the act of vaping in schools by students is categorised as a disciplinary problem.

“School liaison officers (who are from the police force) could help by spreading more awareness on the dangers of vaping if the school requires it.

“We could definitely assist in dealing with such a disciplinary problem,” he said.

If students are vaping outside of school, Comm Hussein urged parents to monitor their children closely.

“Other parties, especially parents, should play their part so that vaping among those underage is not rampant,” he said.
