Perak’s first premium outlet Silverlake Village set for December opening

State tourism and culture chairman Loh Sze Yee

BATU GAJAH: After months of postponing its opening, the Silverlake Village Outlet is set to officially open by December this year, says Loh Sze Yee.

The Perak Tourism, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman said the outlet has already 60% confirmed retailers.

“I was informed that the outlet has already launched its soft opening in September where they had held several events and received warm responses.

“We are happy to announce that the management has given a date to open the outlet and it will be ready for the Visit Perak Year 2024,” he told reporters at the Silverlake Village Outlet here Wednesday (Nov 22).

“The delay was due to several factors including the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

The mall was set to be Perak’s first premium outlet and began its construction in 2017.

In 2013, it was reported that Silverland Capital Sdn Bhd collaborated with Metier Pte Ltd on the RM250mil first phase of its proposed billion-ringgit Silverlakes property project in Kinta Valley.

Loh said among the confirmed tenants include several international and local brands.

“They have a total of 160 stores and for now at least 100 retailers have confirmed.

“The state-level New Year Eve celebration will also be held here so we are excited to have visitors coming soon,” he said, adding that the state is working on providing better transportation services for tourist spots in Batu Gajah.

“Usually when people come to Ipoh, they only go to places within the city. Now we want to focus on expanding the tourism culture within the greater Ipoh area such as Gopeng and Batu Gajah.

“Among the suggestions are expanding the Hop-On Hop-Off bus route for the Gopeng-Batu Gajah tourism cluster,” he said.

Loh said the outlet will also feature a dinosaur exhibition called Dinosaur Encounter with high-technology features.

“The exhibition is an anchor tenant to the outlet where it has Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) and Animatronics.

“It is a combination between entertainment and education suitable for schooling children and adults,” he said.

Silverland managing director Shaik Rizal Sulaiman who was also present said the exhibition is run by a local company called WeGrow Global Sdn Bhd.

“This would be their latest exhibition site after the ones in the National Science Centre, Zoo Melaka, Zoo Teruntum Pahang and Wetland Studios Putrajaya.

“Through this collaboration, we hope that it will not only boost the tourism sector but also help with the local economy through job opportunities.

“We see Dinosaur Encounter as one of the main attractions in the outlet besides shops, cafes and restaurants,” he added.
