'Datuk Botak' approached me and those without cases, claims Wan Ahmad Fayhsal

SHAH ALAM: A Bersatu leader claims their MPs devoid of court cases and issues with the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) are being courted.

Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said that he was also one of those who had been approached by one "Datuk Botak", stating that he was allegedly a messenger from the government of the day to offer allocations for the constituency of Machang.

Wan Ahmad Fayhsal, who is also the Bersatu Youth chief, said this on the sidelines at the Armada annual general assembly being held Thursday (Nov 23) at IDCC here, ahead of the party's AGM on Friday (Nov 24).

"These individuals approaching Bersatu MPs have been monitoring who they can approach, with them offering to MPs without court cases or any cases with the Inland Revenue Board.

"I was approached about a month ago but I will never betray my voters. I was given the trust to take the seat with the PAS logo under Perikatan Nasional and to go against Umno in the last general election.

"The Machang voters had gone all out with their own money and time to campaign for me and voted for me - how could I betray them?

"As for now, I do not think that there will be more Bersatu MPs shifting their allegiance to the other side but then again, we never know what is on the mind of other MPs.

"At this annual general meeting, we insist on reminding our members (of the baits) that they should be careful as we have worked hard to win the seats. We are not a few but we are many, be it as parliamentarians or state assemblymen," said Wan Ahmad Fayhsal.

He also said that he would look into whether a complaint could be made to the Parliament Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul against individuals who lobby opposition MPs to shift their allegiances to be barred from the grounds of august House.

In recent weeks, four Bersatu MPs - namely from Labuan, Gua Musang, Jeli and Kuala Kangsar - had pledged their allegiance to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

They were Lanuan MP Datik Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman, Kuala Kangsar (Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid), Gua Musang (Mohd Azizi Abu Naim) and Jeli (Zahari Kechik).

However, they remained in the party as the anti-party hopping laws stated they would lose their seats should they hop parties while elected.

Bersatu had suspended Iskandar Dzulkarnain’s membership for four years, while Suhaili was given a six year suspension.

The other two are also facing disciplinary action for breaking ranks.
