PN MP retracts statement on military pensions after rebuke by Defence Minister

KUALA LUMPUR: Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan (pic) has rebuked an Opposition MP over the latter’s claims that military pension claims were not prioritised by the government.

Major-General (Rtd) Datuk Khlir Mohd Nor (PN-Ketereh) claimed that he had not heard any Defence Minister raise the issue with the Cabinet.

“This includes the current minister who has led the ministry for close to a year. If you have, tell me.

“But for now, I haven’t heard anything,” he said when debating Budget 2024 at the committee stage on Thursday (Nov 23).

Mohamad, popularly known as Tok Mat, then interjected and asked how Khlir was sure that the issue of pensions was not discussed with the Cabinet.

“I raised it many times. Retract your accusation. I’ve brought the matter to the Cabinet.

“You made an accusation that is not factual,” he said sternly.

Khlir attempted to justify his statement, saying if the matter was not presented to the Cabinet, it should be done but if it was already raised, then it's fine.

Mohamad, however, said his statement should be retracted.

“Fine, I retract my statement,” said Khlir.
