FGV charts new pathways in renewables investment

With Malaysia’s palm oil industry contributing a total export revenue of RM137.89bil in 2022, the long-term growth of local agriculture companies is crucial for the nation’s long-term future.

In the face of escalating challenges posed by climate change, many homegrown companies are intensifying their commitment to minimise their carbon footprint.

One of these companies is Malaysian-based FGV Holdings Berhad, one of the world’s largest producers of crude palm oil and a contributor to the country’s total annual output of this commodity by up to 15%.

“At FGV, we believe that sustainability first, profit and growth will follow, aligning seamlessly with our commitment to sustainable practices at the heart of our operations,” said Datuk Nazrul Mansor, Group Chief Executive Officer of FGV Holdings Bhd.

“By investing in renewables, the Group aims to reduce its environmental footprint, demonstrate corporate responsibility, and contribute to global efforts in combating climate change.

We understand that the success of our business is intertwined with environmental stewardship, making our investment in renewables not only a strategic move but also a responsibility to the planet and future generations.”

The ESG Positive Impact Awards 2022 winner is the first food and agriculture company in Malaysia to affirm its commitment to address climate change by signing the Science Based Targets initiative Business Ambition for 1.5°C pledge.

Through its climate action plan, FGV Holdings is taking tangible steps towards becoming a net-zero emission business by 2050.

This includes a dedicated sustainability programme that addresses environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues and has received several certifications for its sustainable practices, including the Malaysian Palm Oil Certification scheme and the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certification.

As a pioneer in sustainability within the industry, FGV Holdings is partnering with Star Media Group to livestream a webinar on Nov 30, where the company will share its sustainability strategies with other organisations aspiring to embrace renewable energy as a cornerstone of their sustainable practices.

As part of the event, participants will:

“The event offers a strategic platform for engaging with experts, and interacting with decision-makers, fostering innovation and creating new career paths,” continued Datuk Nazrul Mansor.

“It is crucial for individuals and businesses seeking insights into sustainable practices, waste management, and the integration of renewable energy into operations, providing practical ways to measure environmental and social sustainability in their own initiatives.”
