Motorcyclist nabbed with fake licence bought through social media

AMPANG JAYA: A motorcyclist who rode around with a fake licence for over two years has been caught.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said the 31-year-old suspect was caught in a joint traffic operation at Pandan Indah at around 10am on Thursday (Nov 23).

"The motorcyclist was stopped at a roadblock along Jalan Kemajuan.

"We checked his identification and licence and found that the latter was fake," he said in a statement on Friday (Nov 24).

He said both the rider and motorcycle were brought to the Ampang Traffic Police Station for further investigation.

The rider claimed that he bought the licence through an advertisement on social media.

"Our checks revealed the motorcyclist purchased the licence through an advertisement on Facebook in July 2021 for RM1,200.

"We have opened investigations under Section 108(3)(g) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for using a fake licence," he said.

ACP Mohd Azam added that if found guilty, the rider could face a maximum five years in jail or a RM20,000 fine, or both.
