National Stadium field to be ready for Malaysia Cup final despite damage during Coldplay concert


KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Stadium Corporation says it will ensure that the Bukit Jalil National Stadium field will be ready for the 2023 Malaysia Cup final on Dec 8.

Its chief executive officer Mohd Faidz Sanusi said damage to the field was caused during the Coldplay concert on Wednesday (Nov 22).

He said they would undertake immediate restoration work on the field, similar to what was done before the 2023 Merdeka Tournament final.

"We will ensure that the playing surface is playable for the Malaysia Cup final. We are aware of the concerns raised and will promptly address the matter," he said when contacted by Bernama on Friday (Nov 24).

The Malaysia Cup final is will see defending champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) take on Terengganu FC.

Earlier, JDT owner Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, who sponsored the Zeon Zoysia grass for use at the National Stadium, posted a picture on social media showing the damage to the field.

On Wednesday, 85,000 fans flooded the National Stadium for British rock band Coldplay's Music of the Sphere World Tour concert. – Bernama
