Two new resorts will help create jobs in Alor Gajah, says exco rep

General manager of Parkroyal A'Famosa Melaka, Anthony Paul Quin.

MELAKA: Alor Gajah will get a boost to its local economy thanks to the opening of two new resorts in the sleepy town, says a Melaka exco member.

State youth, sports and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) committee chairman VP Shanmugam said the Parkroyal A’Famosa would contribute to the growth of tourism in rural Melaka and create employment opportunities for the local community.

"The hotel will bring about a multiplier effect to boost the economy and strengthen the tourism industry of Alor Gajah that is currently perceived as a 'sleepy hollow'," he said on Friday (Nov 24).

Shanmugam, who is also Gadek assemblyman, said the decision by Parkroyal to invest in the property would also help his constituency prosper by giving a boost to local businesses and surrounding tourist destinations.

He said the hotel would also increase tourist arrivals to Gadek Wellness and Spa Resort, which would start operations by early next year with visitors expected from Europe and Taiwan.

Shanmugam said the site has 20 rooms and eight chalets with hot spring pools on the four-hectare site.

Construction of the resort was approved under the 11th Malaysia Plan and was built at the cost of RM17.9mil, said Shanmugam.

Meanwhile, the general manager of Parkroyal A'Famosa Melaka, Anthony Paul Quin said the resort would offer 213 rooms and suites designed with a touch of local inspiration and trial stays will start next month.

He said the resort is expected to be fully operational by the first quarter of next year and the price range of hotel rooms will be designed to be reasonable.

"We have an exclusive ballroom and various attractions at our hotels to complement tourist arrivals to Alor Gajah and the state as a whole," he added.
