SHAH ALAM: More youths in Selangor found jobs last year compared to 2021, with the recorded number dropping from 94,800 to 67,200.
State youth, sports and entrepreneurship committee chairman Najwan Halimi said youth was defined as those aged between 15 and 30, according to the Malaysian Youth Policy (DBM).
Unemployed individuals are defined as those seeking employment and not currently working.
To address this issue, various programmes were implemented in Selangor, including job fairs and initiatives promoting involvement in the gig economy.
“In 2022 and 2023, three series of Selangor Mega Job Fairs were held, offering nearly 55,000 jobs in total,” he told the state assembly yesterday.
“Under Inisiatif Roda Darul Ehsan, a RM550 subsidy was disbursed to support youth participation in the gig economy.”
He was responding to Pua Pei Ling (PH-Bukit Lanjan), who asked about Selangor’s unemployment figures and the efforts taken to address the issue.
Najwan said the Selangor Job Portal was also launched, in which job seekers could set up a profile to be matched up with prospective employers.
On efforts taken to help the disabled secure employment, he said there were quotas reserved for them at job fairs.
