Task force keeping tabs on rice industry

PETALING JAYA: In a month-long initiative, the Local White Rice Operation Special Task Force (Op BPT) has conducted 13 investigations.

Four of these cases involved the Padi and Rice Regulatory Division, while nine came under investigation by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) enforcement division.

Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin, who led the Op BPT, said the task force, strategically operating at the zone and state levels, had achieved its inspection targets, spanning the entire industrial chain – from factories to wholesalers and retailers in the peninsula.

“A total of 198 premises were inspected to ensure compliance with regulations,” he said in a statement yesterday.

According to Chan, the operations were successfully completed at the ports, border entrances, and 27 wholesale and retail premises.

The task force collaborated with the relevant departments and agencies such as Customs, KPDN, Eastern Sabah Security Command, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and marine police.
