‘Wahab has to come forward’

KUALA LUMPUR: The identity of “Mr H” cannot be verified without input from Community Communications Department (J-Kom) assistant officer Abdul Wahab Abdul Kadir Jilani, says Bukit Aman.

CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said police already recorded the statement of the man believed to be Mr H, but his identity could not be ascertained until Abdul Wahab comes forward.

“If Abdul Wahab can identify him and reveal his role in the incident, then we can positively identify Mr H.

“For now, we only know who Mr H is based on Mohammad Agus’ statement,” he said, in reference to former J-Kom director-general Datuk Dr Mohammad Agus Yusoff.

A controversy erupted recently when a video emerged purportedly showing Mohammad Agus having an indecent chat with someone named “Wahab”.

However, in a joint press conference last Friday, Mohammad Agus and Abdul Wahab denied the veracity of the video.

Abdul Wahab claimed that the audio was added to the video only later and that the video was created by a “Mr H”.

Mohammad Agus, who lodged a police report, said the video was doctored and that it was targeted at sullying his reputation and sabotaging his career.

Yesterday, Comm Mohd Shuhaily told reporters that the police had so far recorded the statements of Mohammad Agus, political activist Chegubard (Badrul Hisham Shaharin), Mr H and a worker at the hotel in Bangi where last Friday’s press conference was held.

“We urge Abdul Wahab to come forward as soon as possible.

“We tried to get a hold of him through his lawyer. We told the lawyer if there are any security concerns, we will ensure Abdul Wahab’s safety,” he said.

Asked about talk that Abdul Wahab was being threatened, Comm Mohd Shuhaily said no police report had been lodged on the matter.

On a sexual harassment case involving a government agency director-general, Comm Mohd Shuhaily said investigations were now in the final stages with police already recording the statements of the complainant, the suspect (a director-general) and the suspect’s special officer.

The suspect’s statement was recorded on Thursday.

“We also had to record the statement of his special officer to verify a meeting between the suspect and the complainant,” he said.

He added that police also seized the suspect’s mobile phone.

“We are investigating the case under Sections 509, 507A, 292 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

“We expect to refer the investigation paper to the Attorney General’s Chambers soon,” he said.
