Govt needs to give quick, consistent responses, says Gopeng Wanita PKR vice-chairman

PUTRAJAYA: The responses from the unity government over issues in the past year has been quite weak, says Gopeng Wanita PKR vice-chairman Wong Chai Yi.

“When the unity government makes unpopular decisions, controversial decisions, divisive issues, the government is slow in doing damage control,” she said during the party’s congress here on Sunday (Nov 26).

“We have to understand that in politics these days, perception is everything,” she added.

She said leaders should be able to provide solid and prompt explanations, adding that these responses must be consistent among ministers and the Prime Minister.

Wong said without quick and consistent explanation, party members will be confused.

Therefore, they will not be able to provide the people with accurate information on the government’s stance.

“In the era of social media, we have to compete in delivering accurate information to the people before it is questioned by the Opposition,” she said.

She said this is important to build trust and defend the unity government’s stability.

The two-day party congress kicked off with PKR’s women and youth wing’s congresses at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

This is also the first party congress held after PKR chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s appointment as the 10th Prime Minister on Nov 24, 2022.
