Johor allocates RM2.3mil to schools affected by floods

ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Johor state government has allocated RM2.3mil for post-flood maintenance in schools affected earlier this year.

Johor education, information, and communication committee chairman Norliza Noh said 56 schools were involved, with those in Batu Pahat and Segamat the most affected.

“We have also requested that the agencies and schools involved store textbooks, tables and chairs in safer locations,” she said at the state assembly in Kota Iskandar on Sunday (Nov 26).

Norliza added that the government is also ready to activate “Operasi Payung” to ensure students can attend lessons even when schools are cut off by floodwaters.

“The operation will involve cooperation between the Malaysian Civil Defence Force and the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) in transferring students from their homes to their schools.

“We have done this during the previous flood in March at SMK Bandar Kota Tinggi and SMK Tun Habab,” she said, adding that SPM examinations will still continue and cancellation or postponement would be the last resort.

The SPM 2023 examination will take place from Dec 5 to March 7 next year.
