KUALA LUMPUR: It is important for voters to give the mandate to Barisan Nasional in the Kemaman by-election, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
In a Facebook post on his official account on Sunday (Nov 26), he said this is in the interests of the people and local development parallel to the central government.
In the post, he added that he arrived in Kemaman in the afternoon to meet with the leaders and representatives of 20 local Chinese NGOs.
"The meeting was also attended by Chukai Barisan coordinator Datuk Seri Mohamed Rahim Hussin as well as local Barisan leaders," said Dr Wee.
He added that before the meeting, he had met with customers at a coffee shop to get their feedback regarding the current Kemaman by-election.
He added in his post that the Kemaman by-election was held because the court found that the results of the last general election contained elements of fraud.
Dr Wee said that although there are only 7,000 Chinese voters in the constituency, they must ensure political balance in Kemaman, especially since Barisan Nasional did not win a single seat in Terengganu.
"I call on the voters, especially the Chinese, to vote for the Barisan Nasional candidate, who is also a former Army Commander, so that he can serve the people of Kemaman," said Dr Wee.
"Full support from the Chinese for this candidate is vital and meaningful because we need to ensure the continuity of development, as shown by the voting style of the Chinese voters in Pelangai, Pahang," he added.
Dr Wee was accompanied by MCA Central Committee and Chenderiang Assemblyman YB Choong Shin Hen and MCA Central Committee & Kelantan MCA Chairman Chua Hock Kuan, among others.
He was also accompanied by Pahang MCA Central Committee & Secretary Datuk Quek Tai Seong, MCA Bahagian Paya Besar head Fong Wan Kok and MCA Women's Deputy Secretary General Datuk Katherine Kwang.
Additionally, Terengganu MCA Secretary Tan Chia Wei, National MCA Youth Vice Leader Wong Miew Kie, MCA Bahagian Kemaman Secretary Steven Poh, MCA Youth Division head James Lim and Women's Division head Boon Kim Lain also joined Dr Wee.
