Prank victim can still barely walk

Pain pain go away: Puteri and her mother Azera Yazid at the hospital for the girl’s physiotherapy session.

PETALING JAYA: It was a childish prank that happened a month ago but an 11-year-old girl is still suffering from the consequences.

These days, Puteri Atiqah can barely walk and complains of pain every time she has to move.

It all happened when a classmate pulled away the chair she was about to sit on. She landed on the floor and injured her spine.

“Since then, our lives have changed a lot. We need to be more careful when caring for Puteri, especially when it comes to mobility,” said her mother Azera Yazid, 35.

“She would complain of leg and back pains despite only taking a few steps. She trembles a lot.

“Her immune system has also become weaker,” Azera said in an interview.

She said Puteri, who has cerebral palsy, used to be an active girl who enjoyed singing and outdoor activities.

“But we can’t go for outdoor activities anymore just like we used to,” said the mother of four.

Puteri, she said, has been in and out of the hospital and the bill has reached RM38,000 and counting.“The costs are going up because the doctor can’t provide the estimated recovery period,” Azera said.

Currently, the hospital bills are covered by insurance but the family is worried about the financial burden eventually.

Both Azera and her husband run a catering business but following the incident, the couple cannot work as usual since both of them need to care for Puteri, who has yet to return to school.

Despite their situation, Azera said she does not blame the classmate who played the prank as the youngster is also a special child.

Last month, Azera posted a video of her daughter being bedridden after becoming a victim of the prank.

The clip has since notched over two million views on TikTok.
