Preserve Sabah's historical buildings as heritage, urges state rep

KOTA KINABALU: Efforts must be put in place for every district or town in Sabah to preserve historical buildings, says a state lawmaker.

Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Yusof Yacob said such buildings should be maintained and refurbished to be turned into tourist products.

"In Sipitang, I have requested for the old district office building to be preserved.

"The building is the only legacy from the British colonial government and can be developed into a tourist product," he said when debating Sabah 2024 Budget at the State Legislative Assembly Monday (Nov 11).

He said the government should consider allocating RM4mil to carry out the preservation of the colonial building and designate it as a 'heritage building' that could be used to serve as a district information gallery.
