KOTA KINABALU: The body of a person with disabilities was found floating on a river in Kampung Sembulan Lama here on Tuesday (Nov 28).

Passers-by spotted the body of the 46-year-old man face down in Sungai Sembulan at about 7.30am.

Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said a police team rushed to the village, which is in the city centre, following a distress call.

According to family members, the victim was last seen around midnight next to the river near their house.

“The victim’s older sister said the man suffered from headaches after surgery following a motorcycle accident in 2016,” ACP Mohd Zaidi said when contacted.

“We found no signs of injury on the body,” he added.

He said police believe the man fell into the river by accident and drowned.

He said firemen at the scene retrieved the victim’s remains, which have been sent for a post-mortem at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital here.

“Investigations are ongoing,” he said, adding that the case had been classified as sudden death for the moment.
