Malaysians outraged by act of boy who attempted robbery on e-hailing driver

PETALING JAYA: Many Malaysians have taken to social media to express their shock and displeasure with the act of a 13-year-old boy who allegedly attempted to rob a e-hailing driver in Taman Keladi, in Kedah on Monday (Nov 27).

They said that they were shocked that someone so young had attempted to commit such an act against the driver recently.

Naimah Moktar commented on Facebook that there was something wrong with the boy for committing the act, and the authorities need to get to the bottom of it.

"I'm glad the driver wasn't seriously injured. Good thing he got this on video. People, please stop bringing race in this matter. Nothing good will come out of it,” she said.

Another user, Tai Jerry then commented saying youths are getting bolder in committing such acts.

"The new generation is getting bolder. They rob, they drive, they rempit (speed on bikes) etc.... at a very tender age. Something is very wrong with our education and parenting system (sic),” they said.

On Instagram, @dftchong called on the authorities to take stern action against the suspect.

"It was a stabbing using a deadly weapon....n (and) should be charged as such. Don't water down the severity of the action (sic),” they said.

Similarly, @eldongmy said that this is an attempted murder.

"This is attempted murder. Regardless of his age, this is a very serious issue that needs to be addressed on the boy's mental health (sic)," he said, noting the possibility of the suspect becoming even more daring when he is an adult.

A video recording of the incident which was captured on the victim's dashcam in the car has since gone viral on social media.

Kuala Muda OCPD Asst Comm Zaidy Che Hassan was reported as saying that the suspect was arrested at about 10pm the same day after the victim lodged a police report.

Police also seized a knife measuring 25cm long which was left in the victim's car.

The suspect was remanded for a day to facilitate investigations under Section 393 of the Penal Code for attempted robbery.
