PETALING JAYA: The number of daily confirmed Covid-19 cases has been on the rise since September, according to data from the Health Ministry’s GitHub portal KKMNow.
In its latest update on Nov 4, 262 confirmed daily cases were recorded on that day compared to 67 on Sept 1.
On Oct 1, 95 cases were recorded, showing an uptick in the total number of Covid-19 daily cases compared to Sept 1.
From September to November, the highest number of daily confirmed cases was on Nov 2 with 305.
This was also the highest number of recorded cases in a single day since June 25 this year, according to the portal.
From Nov 12-18, 2,305 cases were reported, marking a 28% surge compared to the Nov 5-11 period, which recorded a total of 1,801 cases, according to a statement by the Health Ministry dated Nov 23.
In the same statement, it said that 21 new Omicron variants were reported, 20 of which were variants of concern (VOCs) and one variant of interest (VOI). It added that the Covid-19 situation was still under control.
Separately, KKMNow portal statistics between September and November showed a slight dip in the number of daily hospital admissions.
A total of 95 patients were admitted on Sept 1, compared to 92 on Oct 1 and 79 on Nov 4.
Throughout the same period, the number of self-tests conducted daily also showed an upward trend from 3,466 tests conducted on Sept 1 to 3,680 on Oct 1 and 4,155 on Nov 1.
Conversely, the number of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests showed a decreasing trend during this period with 434 tests conducted on Sept 1 to 360 on Oct 1, and 321 on Nov 1.
Meanwhile, vaccination data as of Oct 31 showed that 16,348,414 or 50.1% of Malaysians had received their first booster shots, while only 828,145 Malaysians (2.5%) had their second boosters.
Of the number, 69.2% of adults had received their first booster while second booster uptake paled in comparison, with only a 3.5% take-up rate.
As for adolescents, more than 90% have taken their primary vaccine doses, with only 1.9% having their booster.
The vaccination rate among children remained low, with only 43.3% having completed their primary vaccination as of Oct 31.
