Man held for putting RM5mil bounty on PM


KUALA LUMPUR: A 34-year-old man has been detained for allegedly threatening the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim via social media.

The suspect allegedly uploaded a TikTok video offering a RM5mil reward to assassinate the Prime Minister and members of the Cabinet.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the suspect was detained at Jalan Padang Tembak in Kota Baru, Kelantan.

“He has been remanded until Thursday. We are investigating under Section 507 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he said in a statement yesterday.

A police report was lodged on Sunday against an individual who uploaded a video on the short video platform TikTok in which he offered a RM5mil bounty to anyone who could assassinate Anwar.The report was lodged by Mohamad Shazrin Ezam Mohd Saidi at the Putrajaya Presint 7 police station.

Meanwhile, a 37-year-old man was detained for allegedly insulting the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong.

The IGP said the suspect was also detained in Kota Baru for uploading a commentary that has the potential to incite anger and insult to any ruler.
