THE 136-year-old Sri Muneeswarar Temple in Jalan Wadihana, Johor Baru, has been relocated to make way for the Gemas- Johor Baru double tracking rail project, Malaysia Nanban reported.
The state government allocated a plot for the temple at Taman Eco Flora, according to Johor Hindu Sangam chairman K. Vijayan, adding that the state also pledged to allocate RM100,000 for the temple.
When the temple was identified for relocation, state exco member Raven Kumar Krishnasamy requested that the Hindu Sangam assist in the matter, Vijayan added.
The body advanced RM16,000 for the relocation work including for the conducting of prayers before moving the deities from the site.
The Arulmigu Rajamariamman Devasthanam Temple and other volunteers pledged RM5,000 to the temple.
The Muneeswarar Temple was one of three which was successfully relocated over the past month for the project, Vijayan said.
