Floods: Number of evacuees increase in Johor


JOHOR BARU: The number of flood evacuees from five villages here has seen a slight increase on Friday (Dec 1) evening.

According to the Johor Civil Defence Force, the number of flood victims had gone up to 582 as of 8pm, up from 538 four hours earlier.

"There are currently 582 people from 151 families seeking shelter at the two temporary flood relief centres.

"This is an increase of 44 people," it said in a statement here.

The department noted that no new temporary flood relief centre was opened since 10am.

Those affected by the flash floods are residents from Kg Sentosa Damai, Kg Sentosa Barat, Kg Paya Kenangan, Kg Pasir Tebrau and Kg Kangkar Tebrau.

The department noted that so far, only the Johor Baru district has been affected by floods.
