57 bikes seized, 88 compounds issued during traffic ops in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: Police have seized 57 motorcycles and issued 88 compounds for various offences during an operation in Bayan Baru just before midnight Saturday (Dec 2) until Sunday (Dec 3) morning.

Southwest district police chief Supt Kamarul Rizal Jenal said the operation, dubbed Ops Samseng Jalan, saw over 40 enforcement personnel coming together to nab the offenders.

"Two officers, 25 personnel from the Traffic and Enforcement Department, and 14 policemen conducted the operation in Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah and Persiaran Mahsuri from 11.30pm to 10am today.

"In the operation, 57 motorcycles were seized under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 while 88 compounds were issued for various offences.

"Apart from curbing road bullying, the operation also aims to ensure that all motorcyclists abide by the law at all times," he said in a statement on Sunday.

Last week, a total of 50 motorcycles were seized by police following a three-hour roadblock operation on Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway in Bayan Lepas.

A further 144 compounds were issued for various offences in that operation.
