Fire destroys 10 houses in Semporna, 55-year-old man killed


KOTA KINABALU: A 55-year-old man was killed in a fire that destroyed 10 houses in Semporna district on Monday (Dec 4).

Authorities found the body of the foreigner around 11.16am when inspecting the site after they got the blaze under control.

According to Semporna OCPD Superintendent Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, they initially received a report on the blaze that broke out at Kampung Tepian Bakau at 9.08am.

"The firefighters on location managed to control the fire which burned down 10 units of houses there.

"The team found the remains after handling the fire and Semporna police has classified this case as a sudden death report.

"The body has been sent to the Semporna hospital forensics unit for an autopsy," said Mohd Farhan.
