Mechanic charged with drug trafficking ordered to enter defence

TAWAU: The High Court here on Monday ordered a mechanic to enter his defence on a charge of trafficking nearly 200 kilogrammes of Syabu in 2021.

Judge Datuk Dr Lim Hock Leng ordered Tai Chee Khiong, 51, to enter his defence after finding that the prosecution had succeeded in establishing a prima facie in the case.

The court set Tuesday (Dec 5) for the defence proceeding.

According to the charge, Tai was alleged to have trafficked methamphetamine weighing 199,950.1 grammes in Kampung Batu Payung, Tawau, at 7.30am on Sept 6, 2021.

The charge, framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, provides the death penalty or life imprisonment, upon conviction.

The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Hurman Hussain, while Tai was represented by lawyer Darmin Acok. – Bernama
