RANTAU PANJANG: A young man from Kampung Bawah Lembah in Gual Periok here put his creativity to work to convert a motorcycle into a vehicle that can ford floodwaters to help victims, Sinar Harian reports.

Mohd Kalmiru Zuhairi Abdullah, 27, has gone viral on social media for his efforts to help transport flood evacuees over the past two weeks, the Malay language daily reported.

The vegetable farmer told Sinar Harian that he had thought up the idea after Rantau Panjang was hard hit by floods earlier this year.

He said that his uncle, Mazlan Mohamad, 45, had helped to convert the motorcycle.

"We took about five months on the project to ensure the vehicle would work properly in the rising waters.

"We spent about RM500 buying the necessary modifications and equipment," he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.

Mohd Kalmiru said the vehicle could accommodate four adults at a time.

"I don't charge anything to use it, it is my earnest contribution to all the residents of Rantau Panjang," he said.
