PETALING JAYA: A 50km pre-dawn chase, with 28 police cars from four districts screaming through the streets of Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Serdang and Sepang ended with the arrest of a man wanted for armed robbery.
A woman with him was also arrested.
The suspect rammed into several other vehicles including a police motorcycle patrol unit personnel in the chase which finally came to an end after police surrounded the vehicle near the Taman Tasik Cyberjaya roundabout.
The suspect was first spotted along Jalan Utara in Petaling Jaya and a police patrol car attempted a traffic stop at around 1.40am.
However, the suspect sped off and entered the Federal Highway towards Shah Alam, said Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid.
“Near Jalan PJS 6/1 in Sungei Way, a motorcycle patrol unit tried to stop the vehicle but it rammed into the personnel, causing him to suffer injuries,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Police who were chasing the suspect called for back up and the pursuit via the Damansara Puchong Expressway and New Pantai Expressway entered the jurisdiction of Serdang, Subang Jaya and Sepang police districts.
“We had 28 patrol cars involved because each of the police districts responded to the call for back up.
“The pursuit ended near the Taman Tasik Cyberjaya when the suspect’s vehicle was surrounded by police patrol cars,” said ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin.
He said police recovered a knife, a pair scissors, gloves, a helmet, one identity card and four debit cards from the vehicle.
“The man had 11 cases on his record for crime and drug offences. He is also wanted in connection with an armed gang robbery.
“Both suspects have been remanded for four days,” he said, adding that police have opened investigations under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving and disturbing other motorists.
