Semporna estate worker nabbed with homemade guns

KOTA KINABALU: An estate worker has been arrested in Semporna district for possessing two homemade guns.

The 38-year-old migrant was arrested during a raid on his workers' quarters at around 11pm Tuesday (Dec 5), said Semporna OCPD Supt Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah.

He said during the raid, policemen found the two guns and a box of marbles believed to be used as ammunition.

“There was also a bottle of spirit believed to be used (as a propellant) in the seized guns," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 5).

The suspect and seized items were taken back to the Semporna police station for investigation under the Firearms Act 1960, Supt Farhan added.

“The suspect can be jailed up to seven years or fined up to RM10,000, or both, if found guilty of possessing these items illegally,” he said.

According to Supt Farhan, it is an offence for anyone to have in their possession, care, control or usage any sort of weapon or ammunition without a permit.

He urged the public to contact the Semporna police station at 089-782020 or the nearest police station if they have any crime-related information or enquiries.
