Video of individual proposing Malaysia-Israel ties is old, says Fahmi

PUTRAJAYA: Checks show that the video of an individual proposing the establishment of diplomatic ties between Malaysia and Israel was originally from December 2021, says Fahmi Fadzil

"The video is from a YouTube video titled 'Malaysia And Israel - From Enemies To Allies?'. The video was created on Dec 17, 2021, not 2023. That was two years ago when I was not a minister," said the Communications and Digital Minister after the monthly assembly of the Communications and Digital Ministry (KKD) on Wednesday (Dec 6).

Fahmi said the question why no action was taken over the viral video should be directed to the Home Minister and the Communications and Multimedia Minister at that time.

A concerned citizen, Syed Muhammad Shafiq Syed Jaafar, 35, lodged a police report over the video at the Dang Wangi police headquarters at 12.50pm after he saw it on X at 11am on Tuesday (Nov 5).

The man said he filed the report as he was worried that the video would normalise relations with Israel.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya confirmed that the police had received the report by the man.

The viral video on social media features an individual named 'Victor Yong Jen Ong' who wanted diplomatic ties to be established between Malaysia and Israel, which is against government policy.

Fahmi advised the public to check the authenticity of any video they received and whether it was an old clip which has gone viral again. – Bernama
