Reps and Speaker to get special financial aid

IPOH: Perak assemblymen who are not part of the state executive council and the state Speaker will receive special financial aid from the state government, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

The Perak Mentri Besar said the 48 assemblymen, excluding him and 10 state executive council members, would each receive a month’s salary as special financial aid as a reward.

“We have also agreed to continue the RM7,000 monthly allocation to all assemblymen’s service centres, which can be used to pay their special officers’ allowances, rentals, and utility bills,” he said during his winding-up speech at the state assembly sitting here yesterday.

Three Opposition assemblymen – including state Opposition leader Razman Zakaria (PN-Gunung Semanggol), Akmal Kamarudin (PN-Selama) and Noor Azman Ghazali (PN-Alor Pongsu) – thanked Saarani.

Last Friday, Saarani announced a special financial aid of two months’ salary to all civil servants under the state administration, who include state exco members, state-appointed teachers, Orang Besar Jajahan and daily part-time workers.

Perak has 59 assemblymen comprising 24 from Pakatan Harapan, nine from Barisan Nasional and 26 from Perikatan Nasional.

The sitting also saw the Perak Budget 2024 approved unanimously.

Saarani said the state government would continue to assist all constituencies regardless whether assemblymen are from the government or the Opposition bloc.

“We are currently drafting a circular with guidelines on the expenditure procedures and the state will examine the methods implemented by other states as examples and references,” he said.
