Cops raid safehouse in Kota Tinggi, nab 12 illegal immigrants


KOTA TINGGI: 12 illegal immigrants were arrested by the police for trying to leave the country illegally by boat via Felda Gugusan Adela, here.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora said a raid was conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at 1.30am on Saturday (Dec 9) at a house at the Felda settlements.

"Inspection inside the house found 10 foreign men and two foreign women aged between 20 and 46.

"Investigations revealed that the group was trying to return to their country via boat.

"They paid between RM2,800 and RM3,000 each to the 'tekong'," he said in a statement.

Supt Hussin added that a 39-year-old local man was also arrested at the location for operating the safehouse the illegal immigrants stayed in.

All of the suspects are detained to help with investigations under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act (Atipsom) 2007 and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for entering the country without valid travel documents.
