Up, up in the air

Sizzling lava erupting out of a snow-covered Mount Etna, Europe’s most active volcano, as seen from Monte San Leo, Sicily, Italy.

Volcano eruptions can be both a spectacular and frightening sight, as shown by recent examples in Italy and Indonesia.

While Mount Etna treated observers with a violent thrashing of lava and flames with nobody getting hurt.

For Mount Marapi however, 23 died as the eruption spewed thick plume of grey ash all over the region.
