Johor Ruler: Give Anwar time to prove himself

PETALING JAYA: Malaysians should give Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim a chance to prove himself, says Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.

His Majesty said it was not possible for the Prime Minister to change the country in one year.

“I will support the government, but if I think they are doing something improper, I will tell them,” His Majesty said in an interview with The Straits Times/ANN.

Sultan Ibrahim does not foresee problems working with Anwar as they already enjoy a close relationship.

“The Prime Minister calls me sometimes, even at midnight, asking for advice.”

His Majesty also spoke of his intention to evaluate recipients of royal awards, having already scrapped an investiture planned for Federal Territories Day on Feb 1, just a day after he becomes the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

“I’ve cancelled the whole lot,” Sultan Ibrahim declared of the event.

The 2023 edition of the Federal Territories Day awards saw 164 recipients.

Sultan Ibrahim said he wanted time to look into the matter as Feb 1, 2024 would just be his second day in office.

His Majesty will be Malaysia’s next King for a five-year term effective Jan 31, 2024.
