QuickCheck: Was a patient treated rudely at a Perak clinic by a health worker?

WHENEVER people go to a clinic when sick, they generally hope to be treated in a professional and respectful manner by the employees – so being treated rudely would come as unpleasant shock.

Recently, a video went viral on TikTok along with a claim that a medical officer at a Menglembu, Perak clinic treated a mother and her child poorly by not only giving poor medical treatment but also speaking to them using rude language.

Is there any truth to this?

VERDICT:

TRUE

In a statement on Monday (Dec 11), Perak health director Dr Sirajuddin Hashim confirmed that the officer at the Menglembu health clinic had provided poor services to a child who had a fever, flu, and cough at the health clinic on Dec 6.

“The officer has been advised to communicate in a more professional manner as well as provide the best clinical care to all patients who go to the clinic,” he said.

Dr Sirajuddin also said that an investigation into the allegations raised in the viral video had been investigated.

He added that he has instructed the clinic to conduct a scheduled clinical audit to prevent a similar incident from recurring.

“The audit will ensure that all patients receive quality treatment in line with the Health Ministry guidelines,” said Dr Sirajuddin.

MStar had on Sunday reported that a TikTok user under the handle @Fatinnursyafiqa21 had uploaded a video claiming that the medical officer had behaved unprofessionally to her and her child.

In the video's caption, the mother also claimed that the officer not only gave poor medical services but also used improper words when calling her and her children.

The video had over 230,000 views and more than 600 comments.
