Bangladeshi slashed to death for disturbing sleeping countryman

KLUANG: A Bangladesh national died after being slashed with a cleaver by a fellow countryman for allegedly disturbing him while he was sleeping at an unit of Flat Haji Manan here on Tuesday (Dec 12) morning.

Kluang police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh said during the incident, the victim, Mohammad Sobuj, 28, who had worked in a supermarket, was slashed in the head and neck.

Following the incident, five Bangladesh nationals aged between 25 and 30 were detained for questioning.

"At 10am, police received a call from a Bangladeshi national to inform police that a man was in a pool of blood after suffering severe injuries and was unconscious.

"The initial investigation revealed that the incident happened when the fifth suspect who lives in the same room as the victim, admitted to slashing the victim with a cleaver which was found in the room, since he was angry when the victim had disturbed him while sleeping," he said in a statement on Tuesday night.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspects who lived in another room knew that the victim had died while they were going to work at 8am.

"The main suspect was detained at Jalan Nyior, opposite Taman Gunung Selatan Empat, here at about 4.45pm while trying to escape after the incident," he said adding that the victim’s body was sent to the Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital for post-mortem.

All five suspects are expected to be remanded and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. - Bernama
