PETALING JAYA: DAP veteran Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang’s statement was recorded for an enquiry paper into his alleged "non-Malay prime minister" statement, says his lawyer.
Speaking to reporters outside the Seapark police station on Wednesday (Dec 13), lawyer Khairil Khalid said there had been one police report lodged and the investigation was conducted based on the report.
“The cooperation between Lim and the police; it all went OK. A total of 27 questions were asked,” he said, adding the process took around an hour.
The group was seen leaving the station around 10.40am.
In a statement on Monday (Dec 11), Lim revealed that he would meet the police to clarify the remarks made to Malaysian students in Manchester, United Kingdom late last month.
He was accused of making a provocative statement, saying the Malaysian Constitution provides that a non-Malay can become prime minister.
"There was no such intention," he said.
Explaining, Lim said the Malaysian Constitution is a non-provocative document and added that it is the basis on which Malaysian unity must be founded.
"I believe that Tunku Abdul Rahman (Putra al-Haj), Tun (Abdul) Razak and Tun Hussein (Onn) were not being provocative when they supported and provided in the Malayan and later the Malaysian Constitution that a non-Malay could become prime minister.
"I agree with commentators that at present, the statement is not a 'statement of reality'," he said.
