Seremban cops probe abuse claim against babysitter

SEREMBAN: Police here have started investigating the alleged abuse of a 13-month-old baby boy by his babysitter.

Seremban deputy police chief Supt Mohd Rosli Ishak said a police report on the alleged abuse was lodged on Dec 7.

He said the claim had also gone viral on social media.

"I would like to remind the public not to get involved in any case related to child abuse or neglect," he said here on Wednesday (Dec 13).

Supt Mohd Rosli said the case was being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for abandonment, neglect and exposing the child to danger.

It provides for a jail term of up to 20 years or a fine of up to RM50,000, or both, upon conviction.

In a post which went viral, a woman claimed her husband noticed bruises on their child's back on Dec 5, while changing his diapers at their home.

She said they were both shocked to see the extent of the bruises.

The woman, who claimed to have been sending her son to the babysitter in Sikamat for three months, said she had found similar marks on her son's body earlier but they were not as pronounced.

She claimed that when they checked with the babysitter, they were told that other children may have been responsible.

According to the woman, the babysitter apparently looks after more than 10 children.

She went on to add that her son had to be admitted to hospital for a checkup.
