PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has identified about 10 individuals who allegedly disseminated a fake message claiming that diesel subsidies will be abolished for vehicles from Jan 1, 2024.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said information on the individuals identified would be handed over to the police for investigation and further action.
"MCMC identified eight to 10 propagators and we will hand over the information to police for further investigation," he said in a press conference here on Wednesday (Dec 13), adding that a police report had been lodged.
The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry had previously denied the claims and said that the ministry was implementing a pilot project to look at the effectiveness of a fleet card system and MySubsidi Diesel system involving six companies that had received quotas for skid tanks, which will expire on Jan 14, 2024.
The ministry said the pilot project would not involve diesel for use in individual vehicles.
Fahmi called on the people to report any false messages and content on social media at 016-220 6262 to enable appropriate action to be taken. – Bernama
