Three held after testing positive for drugs

PETALING JAYA: The arrest of three people at the Idaman Apartment here is not connected to the Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin murder investigation, say police.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the arrests followed a mass DNA screening at the apartment complex on Dec 9, in which the trio tested positive for drugs.

He confirmed that the arrests had nothing to do with the murder probe.

“By coincidence, when we were conducting the mass DNA screening there, they tested positive for drugs, so we detained them to conduct further urine tests,” Comm Hussein said.

He had previously said that the full results of the mass DNA testing would be known this week.

On the latest developments on Zayn Rayyan’s murder, Comm Hussein said police identified several items after a second sweep at the apartment in Damansara Damai on Tuesday night.

Police, who were seen re-examining the apartment on Tuesday night, left with two boxes.

Earlier that day, the water of the river where the boy’s body was found was pumped out to enable investigators to search for more clues.

Zayn Rayyan, a six-year-old autistic boy, was found dead about 34 hours after his reported disappearance.

His body was found at about 10pm on Dec 6 in a river near the apartment where he lived. Based on a post-mortem, police said he was believed to have been murdered.
