KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah chief minister Tan Sri Musa Aman was awarded an honorary doctorate (PhD) in economic development by Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).
The honorary doctorate was presented by UMS pro-chancellor Tan Sri Azman Hashim at the university’s 25th Convocation ceremony yesterday.
“This is to honour his achievements in Sabah’s developments, so much that he (Musa) is called the Economic Development Architect for Sabah,” Azman said when conferring the award to Musa.
In his speech provided by UMS, Musa said that he shared this achievement with all of his former Cabinet members and those who served with him. He said his family, political allies, civil servants and aides had helped him achieve his plans and fulfil his duties as chief minister.
Musa was chief minister for 15 years from 2003 to 2018, and UMS pro-chancellor from 2005 to 2018.
His deep interest in the development and improvement of the education system in Sabah started when he was appointed Yayasan Sabah director in 1994.
“I realised that education is very important and it is the main core to achieving success in life,” he said.
