GEORGE TOWN: Newly minted Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying said no matter what she does or where she goes, people will still criticise her, but she will accept it with an open heart, along with whatever comments she receives.
"For me, criticism is normal and people can say whatever they want on social media.
"The same thing happened when I was appointed as senator after GE14, then as deputy education minister, then as candidate for Tanjung and now as Deputy Finance Minister, it is the same," the Tanjung MP said at a press conference during a walkabout at Chowrasta Market on Friday (Dec 15).
Lim said she realises her weakness, but stressed that everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses.
She said what she can do is to promise that she will work to the best of her ability to do what is good for Malaysia and also Penang.
She expressed her thanks to DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, state DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow and DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng for guiding her in politics
Earlier, Lim visited Chowrasta Market, which is in her constituency, and distributed 2024 calendars to market goers and traders.
She spent about an hour mingling with them while wishing them a happy new year.
She also thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the appointment and promised to work together with the new Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan in executing any plan, especially Budget 2024.
On Tuesday (Dec 12), Lim was appointed as the new Deputy Finance Minister; she is the sister of former finance minister Lim Guan Eng.
When asked about RM100 eMadani credit, Lim said she has yet to receive any feedback on the matter but vows to solve any problem regarding the programme.
"I will try to get more information on this, I know a lot of applicants have been rejected, we will try to look into it," she said.
The eMadani programme was announced during the launch of the Madani Economy: Empowering the People framework on July 27, 2023.
The eMadani programme is part of the government's initiative to encourage a digital economy while also helping boost local small and medium businesses (SMEs).
eMadani credit registration and claims have been open since Monday (Dec 4) and are expected to benefit 10 million people.
