KUALA LUMPUR: Honda Malaysia has unveiled its latest all-new CR-V sports utility vehicle (SUV) that is more spacious, stylish and features-packed compared with the previous generation.
The new sixth-generation CR-V comes with five-seats and in four variants – S, E, V and e:HEV RS.
The line-up is also available in choices of a 1.5L VTEC Turbocharged engine or a 2.0L e:HEV hybrid powertrain, and all-wheel drive or two-wheel drive.
The on-the-road price of the S variant without insurance is RM159,900, while E is RM169,900 and V is RM181,900.
The e:HEV RS variant is only available early next year with Honda Malaysia announcing its price closer to delivery.
Honda Malaysia is also offering 750 units of the S variant at a special price of RM157,900 on a first come, first served basis to commemorate Honda’s 75th anniversary and 20 years of CR-V production in Malaysia.
Assembled at Honda Malaysia’s plant in Pegoh, Melaka, the new CR-V features an elegant and sophisticated styling while delivering a spacious interior with a rear leg room of 16mm more space.
Among the stylish touches are a new front grille with a bold mesh pattern, full LED headlights and rear lights and front LED sequential turn signals, among others.
All variants also come with eight airbags, second-row sliding seats, cruise control, smart wiper system, remote engine starter, active noise control, two rear USB chargers, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, walk away auto lock, Honda CONNECT telematics system and Honda SENSING advanced driver assistance system as standard.
The Honda SENSING system has also been upgraded with a wide-angle radar, camera and sonar sensors to provide better detection of road hazards.
The e:HEV RS top variant is equipped with an active shutter grille on the front lower bumper that enhances the aerodynamics of the vehicle to improve fuel efficiency.
Its hybrid powertrain is a combination of a 2.0-litre Atkinson Cycle engine with 148PS and 190Nm of torque mated to an electric motor system that produces 184PS and 335Nm of torque.
This fusion of petrol and electric drive delivers a satisfying driving performance with power delivery and fuel efficiency.
Other features for the e:HEV RS variant are a 10.2-inch TFT Meter, Bose Premium Sound System with 12 speakers, a Head Up Display, Smart Key Card system and 18-inch Berlina Black alloy wheels that add a premium presence.
The 1.5-litre VTEC turbocharged direct injection engine in the S, E and V variants cranks out 193PS and 243Nm of torque for a similar thrilling driving experience with the e:HEV RS.
The S variant is equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels and fabric upholstery while the E, V and e:HEV RS get larger 18-inch alloy wheels and a leather interior.
The E, V and e:HEV RS variants also get an additional front USB-C Port, a 9-inch Advanced Display Audio, wireless smartphone charger and wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity.
Overall, the new CR-V also gets a large boot capacity of 589 litres that can be increased to 1,072 litres.
Honda Malaysia managing director and chief executive officer Hironobu Yoshimura said the new CR-V aligns with the current market trends and demand in the SUV segment.
“For the first three quarters of 2023, the CR-V witnessed a 10% year-on-year growth in sales compared to the previous period.
“To top it off, the model has maintained its No. 1 position in the Non-National Mid-Size SUV Segment during the same period.
“With this new model, we are not just taking a step forward but making a huge leap in this segment.
“The comprehensive SUV package of the All-New CR-V contributed to its soaring popularity, amassing over 2,000 bookings in just one month,” he said, adding that Honda Malaysia is looking at 1,000 units in monthly sales for the new model.
