A YOUNGSTER in Tamil Nadu, India, has earned praise for giving stray dogs glow-in-the-dark collars to help prevent the animals from getting hit by motorists, Makkal Osai reported.

Ravichandran from Coimbatore formed the Kamarajar Foundation with his family and friends during the pandemic to carry out various charitable activities.

He came up with the idea of the luminous collar when one of his friends crashed his motorbike after hitting a dog that had run across the road at night.

He and his friends started making the collars and putting them on the street dogs, which make them more visible at night.

Ravichandran said it was a slow process because it took time to gain the trust of the stray canines.

Statistics show that more than 20% of vehicle accidents in India involve animals.
