PETALING JAYA: The Selangor Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) succesfully rescued a clouded leopard after it was believed to have been hurt after being hit by a motorcycle on Wednesday (Dec 13).

Selangor Perhilitan said, in a statement Saturday (Dec 16), that it had been alerted to the incident by the Semenyih Fire and Rescue station.

The statement also said that Perhilitan personnel, with help from firemen, succesfully rescued the 30kg female clouded leopard.

"After further examination, we found that the clouded leopard had minor surface injuries as well as an injury to its jaw," Perhilitan said.

It added that the animal had been put into a transport cage and sent to the National Wildlife Rescue Centre in Sungkai, Perak, for further treatment.

Perhilitan also said that clouded leopards are totally protected species under Schedule Two of the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 and listed as "vulnerable" on the IUCN Red List of threatened species.
