PETALING JAYA: A sock discovered in the river where the body of autistic six-year-old Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin was discovered was not his, says Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

He said this was determined after a laboratory analysis of the sock

"The result was negative; the sock did not belong to the victim. Police personnel are still at the scene to find any evidence linked to the case," he said when contacted on Saturday (Dec 16).

Comm Hussein added that the police have recorded the statements of 172 individuals, including Zayn Rayyan's parents and residents at the Idaman Apartment.

"Our investigation continues," he added.

It was reported that a sock was discovered on Dec 13 in the river at a spot near where Zayn Rayyan's body was found.

Prior to that, the river had been drained to allow police personnel to comb it for evidence.

At around 11.30am on Dec 12, Department of Irrigation and Drainage truck personnel were seen entering the cordoned off crime scene.

Minutes later a forensics team arrived, with the K-9 unit reaching at around 12.30pm.

Sources confirmed that a pump had been deployed to clear the river water.

Zayn Rayyan was found dead 34 hours after his reported disappearance; his body was discovered on Dec 6 in a river near his home at Idaman Apartment in Damansara Damai at about 10pm.
