Warisan and Umno pact won’t affect GRS coalition, says Jeffrey Kitingan

KOTA KINABALU: A Parti Warisan and Umno pact would not affect the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition in the state, says Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.

The Sabah STAR president said both Warisan and Umno were already in the opposition front, so it was not new.

"They are already in the opposition, what is new? I don't think so," he said when asked whether this cooperation, if materialised, would pose a threat to the GRS in the next state election.

He felt that it would be difficult for a local party to campaign in sync with a national-based party.

Talks of the Warisan-Umno pact heated up once again with Sabah Barisan Nasional chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin attending the Warisan annual general meeting on Dec 14.

Bung said he had turned up as he was invited by Parti Warisan president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, while Shafie said he had also invited leaders from other parties such as Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Malaysia led by former Warisan vice president, Datuk Peter Anthony, but the latter did not turn up.

Both Shafie and Bung remained coy when asked whether a formal pact has been made and only said any sort of cooperation was possible as long as it was for the interest of Sabah and its people.
