KUALA LUMPUR: Investigations into the fatal accident involving a senior police officer that led to the death of a teenager in Ipoh will be done in a fair and transparent manner, says the Inspector-General of Police.
Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said instructions had been given to the Ipoh district police chief as well as the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director on this.
“So far, we have recorded the statements of seven witnesses, including school students.
“I also urge anyone who saw the accident or has relevant information to contact the police to help us with the investigation,” he said when contacted.
“Again, I assure everyone that the investigation will be conducted transparently and fairly despite it involving a senior police officer,” he said.
In IPOH, the police officer has been remanded for three days until tomorrow to assist the investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving and Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
The remand order was issued by Magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhammad Dan at the district police station yesterday.
On Friday, the car driven by the 44-year-old officer was said to have collided with the motorcycle ridden by Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie, who died at the scene on Jalan Taman Jati in Ipoh, Perak at about 12.40pm.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan reportedly said that according to the post-mortem, the Form Five student from SMK Jati had chest and abdominal injuries.
In NIBONG TEBAL, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said counselling would be offered to the family of Muhammad Zaharif Affendi.
“This is a heartbreaking tragedy and the ministry will offer counselling to the family members.
“Counselling will also be given to the students (witnesses) who saw the incident,” Bernama quoted her as saying after she launched the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (Steam) pilot programme and the Steam Laboratory at SJKC Yok Eng Sungai Udang yesterday.
