KOTA KINABALU: A 47-year-old computer programmer who passed away recently has given two people the gift of sight after his family agreed to donate his corneas.
Jonathan Ho from Penampang passed away recently, and when his family was told that his corneas were in good condition for donation, they quickly agreed.
Sabah Health Department director Datuk Dr Asits Sanna said the transplants were conducted successfully, and two people benefited from it.
"Ho is the ninth organ donor in the state thus far this year," he said in a statemen on Sunday (Dec 17).
Ho is from Kg Tuunon Kolopis, Penampang and graduated from the Hawaii Pacific University in Honolulu, America in 1999.
He was actively involved in information technology workshops and programmes to help Sabahans explore further in this field.
His family recalled him as a happy, friendly and helpful soul.
"We in the Health Department are very thankful for his organ donation, and pray for the wellbeing of his bereaved family," said Dr Asits.
"We would also like to take this opportunity to thank other organ donors who wish to remain anonymous," he added.
He said the Queen Elizabeth Hospital recorded eight cornea donations this year while HQE II listed a multiple organ donation case involving the liver, kidney and cornea.
