Online registrations for volunteer community paramedics in Melaka to begin in January

JASIN: Registration of volunteers for the Community Paramedic programme will be opened online from next month to facilitate the participation of the public in every village that is involved.

Community Paramedic Programme chairman Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said they are targeting the participation of volunteers in 339 villages, comprising not just those involved in medical teams but also those in their respective areas who can provide early emergency assistance to those in need.

"Each volunteer will be given training through prepared modules until they are efficient and are also equipped with medical equipment to provide early response during any emergency.

"Through this programme, anyone in the state can be a community hero and raise awareness in the society that anyone can be part of this volunteer group to help others,” he said.

He said this when met at the Deepavali Open House organised by the Jasin MIC division at Bandar Baru Merlimau Utara, which was attended by over 2,000 people from various races.

Elaborating, Dr Muhamad Akmal, who is also the state Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security Committee chairman, said the Community Paramedic service would also be extended to tourist areas in conjunction with the Visit Melaka Year 2024 (TMM2024).

He said that, so far, 30 individuals are being trained before they are appointed to the Community Paramedic teams in tourist hotspots.

"Melaka is the first state to introduce this Community Paramedic initiative and we believe this effort should be emulated by other states,” he said. - Bernama
