Ground surrounding sinkhole ‘unsafe’

PETALING JAYA: The ground surrounding a wide sinkhole that appeared following a landslide in Taman Wawasan, Puchong, here on Saturday remains unsafe due to soil movement, says Subang Jaya Mayor Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim.

“The affected area remains unsafe as soil movements continue to be detected. We are taking all necessary steps to stabilise the ground and prevent further soil erosion in case it starts raining again,” he said during a visit to the site yesterday.

Subang Member of Parliament Wong Chen, who was also present, said the nine affected families would receive cash aid of RM1,000 to ease their financial burden.

“At least they can use the cash to stay at a hotel or buy groceries. We will provide more cash aid if the need arises,” he said.

“My immediate concern is to assist them in retrieving the four cars which fell into the sinkhole.”

Wong said he would also help those affected with legal assistance if the cause of the landslide was due to the fault of certain parties.

“We do not know for now, but if the landslide happened because of some reason caused by a third party, my office will assist the affected residents in filing a class-action suit.

“In the meantime, I urge residents to avoid going to areas prone to floods,” he said.
